Lately, I've been hearing more and more that gratitude helps us, that it's beneficial for us, for our well-being and that of those around us. But still... what's the deal?
Well, for me personally, it comes with a childhood memory from which I learned that if you can't be content with what you have in the present, you won't be able to tick anything off your future list. Dad used to say "why can't you enjoy what we have now?" and I didn't understand what he meant, because I wanted more, something else, differently... Does that sound familiar?
I've lived, I've experienced, and now, in the present, I declare myself a grateful person. I've learned to be grateful for everything that is, not just for what I have or the good things in life.
HOW?
Here, I'll give you an example: You really want to go for a drive (this story is not about a drive). But, as you're about to leave the house, you notice your socks are torn (clue 1). You change and get to the car. As you're about to start the car, you notice you don't have enough gas (clue 2). It started raining, and now you can't even walk (clue 3). Annoyed as you are, you go back home and grumble. However, in a few minutes, a friend calls you saying she urgently needs to come to you for help with something. (ta-da!) See? The moral is that the Universe/God, call it what you will, takes care of us, and that day, you were meant to do something else than "go for a drive." Thus, gratitude for the torn socks, for the little gas in the tank, and for the rain, for managing to bring you back on your path, in your moment and time.
How would it be if you could be content with what you already have? With the house you live in, with your time, with your partner? Absolutely no one says you shouldn't wish for more, but first look at what already exists. And observe how your soul fills up, what a sense of well-being this feeling can offer you!
I'll tell you something else: to manifest anything, from a pen to the vacation of your dreams, the family of your dreams, and ANYTHING you want, you need an abundance mindset. This only comes AFTER gratitude and contentment for what you already have.
So, currently, I am grateful to my father for those words, which I heard but didn't understand back then. At the same time, I am grateful to my mother for the life she lived and for choosing to leave this world. But that's a story for another time...
Until next time, GOOD LUCK WITH HAPPINESS!
